CD Reviews -- Writings on the Wall
Toonage Magazine

Toronto's Basia Lyjak has been involved in the music scene for 10 years, a career that's had various trials, and had her working with many different artists and producers. Her experiences, from being part of a girl group to evolving into a solo artist, have provided the inspiration and ideas, backed by strong songwriting skills, behind the creation of this excellent disc.

So then, how do I define this album? First off, this is a rock album, influenced by the last 30 years of changes to the dynamics of lyrics, style, mood, and instrumentation. Each song takes various elements from the past and present to form a collage that somehow feels familiar, yet new. Writings on the Wall is a female analysis of how music can be used as a medium for thoughts, feelings, and demands. Basia has a conviction which creates a song that captures interest, and allows the listener to relate to the feelings presented.

The highlight of the album was the 4th track, a song entitled "Torn", which is an excellent mix of acoustic and distorted rock with a catchy chorus. As Basia takes her new found right of passage, no doubt she will continue to grow as an artist, giving us more to enjoy.
