TORONTO, ON. - April 3rd, 2008 - "Basia Lyjak's new single 'Don't Talk,' shows us that her 2007 EP 'Writings on the Wall' was no fluke. The new track expresses a much darker vibe and a more raw expression of feeling. The Silesian-Canadian sensuality Ms.Lyjak is known for takes a bit of a backseat to this hard rock statement by the powerful and dynamic vocalist!" - Jason Daniel Baker, Toronto1

Fresh off her single release party last Thursday, rock n' roll singer/songwriter Basia Lyjak has been asked to play the first Toronto Independent Music Awards (TIMA) Showcase of the year on April 9 at Healey's Roadhouse, leading up to the June finale! Bands will be competing for nominations for the "Best Live Band - Electric" and "Best Live Band - Acoustic" categories, with industry judges on hand to take in the performances!

The TIMAs exist to generate exposure for the many talented artists and musicians in the local scene, and provide its participants with industry and media opportunity on a larger scale, while maintaining an environment conducive to what this is all about: creating and performing kickass music!

Online demand for "Don't Talk," co-written by Kyle Riabko, and recorded, produced, mixed and engineered by Brian Moncarz (The Junction, Pilot Speed) of Whirlwind Sound Studios, has been overwhelming, and the response inspiring. Reviews are already available at www.BASIALYJAK.com, with more in the pipeline!

Basia and her band, guitarist Ron Bechard (Sin Dealer, Edwin), bassist Dave Carreiro (Nigel's 11, Slash Puppet) and drummer Glenn Nash (Ozonebaby, Q107 House Band) are starting off the new season in the studio, writing and recording new tunes for the summer, for which there are already some amazing gigs lined up!

On July 25, Basia has been offered the coveted opening slot for legendary rock-turned jazz singer, Lee Aaron! She vowed not to sing rock again, but she's back in full-force for a sold out gig at Rock n' Roll Heaven. Basia is honoured to share the stage with "The Metal Queen," one of Canada's most enduring and versatile vocalists, on her much anticipated return to Toronto and rock n' roll!

The very next day, Basia will perform at KPYO.net's Youth Day festival at Nathan Phillips Square, an event organized by a group of people wholly dedicated to creating constructive opportunity for underprivileged youth in our city. The event is perfect for families looking for a day of diverse music, art and dancing!

People are watching what Basia Lyjak has planned for 2008: it is, after all, the year of the indie artist, and every industry seminar, workshop and music festival has been telling us just that. With her growing fan base, Basia's been proving them right all along!

Tickets $7 at the door.
