Sometimes the only way to address a serious message is through music.
Last Thursday, the Phoenix hosted a benefit concert called A Benefit Concert - Indie Style, showcasing a talented group of local musicians. Its purpose was to bring support to local organizations that are putting an end to youth violence. Charities such as UNITY and Future Aces use positive forms of artistic self-expressions to end violence in communities. It's no question that this is important, but what helps is that local musicians, up and coming artists, come out to show their support. The photographers' favourite was Basia Lyjak. The Canadian rock songstress shone through with her powerful voice flanked by her band of multi-talented and awarded bandmates. She showcased her old favourites such as "Don't Talk" and some new ones that have yet to be released.
