October 22, 2008 10:50 AM - A couple of bands with ties to Mississauga are lending their sound to a fundraising concert this weekend in Toronto to help eliminate breast cancer.
Called Pinktober Ð Stop Breast Cancer for Life, the concert takes place on Friday at the Hard Rock Cafe in Toronto. Performing at the show is heavy music act Scarlet Sins, featuring Mississauga bassist Tanya Nicklaus, as well as local singer Basia Lyjak and Brampton band Dame.
Funds raised from the concert will go to support charities such as the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Lyjak released her second album, Writings On The Wall, last year. Several tracks off the release, including Plastic, Stuttering, Bye Bye, Torn and Lies, can be heard by visiting www.myspace.com/basialyjak. Lyjak's working on material for a new album that she plans on recording sometime soon.
Meanwhile, Scarlet Sins, which includes vocalist Sylvya NuVynska, guitarist Cristina Bishop and drummer Elie Bertrand, first formed in 2004 although Bertrand wasn't added until last year. The band is currently touring in support of its eponymous 13-track debut album.
The band has several tracks available for preview, which can be heard by visiting the website www.myspace.com/scarletsins. These include Drown, With You, Backstabber and Let Go.
