Glenn and Dave laid down their parts for "What It Feels Like" on Sunday, and Ron recorded the guitar tracks last night at Brian Moncarz and David Bottrill's Rattlebox Studios, and it sounds amazing! Ron's amp, which Jag Tanna used to record I Mother Earth's groundbreaking Dig record is being used for this track, and, in Brian Moncarz's words, it's sounding like long lost Appetite for Destruction tracks! A few pictures are up.

The former will be recorded this weekend at Rattlebox Studios, and the latter is in the midst of recording.

A great review from the Fabulous Max Brand!
"...Basia was up next, and this fiery performer has been one of my favorites in Toronto's live scene since 2007, when I first started going to her shows when she's in town. On this night (October 24, 2008 @ Hard Rock Cafe), she did a lot of new tunes that'll be featured on her next EP, which she's just recording and hopefully will be released soon or in the new year. There's no question there'll be a huge CD release party somewhere like the Tattoo Bar or The Phoenix Concert Theatre with some supporting bands.
This phenom is on her way right now and if you ever get the chance to see this talented performer live, you'll be so amazed you'll end up becoming a fan right away. At her peak right now she is going to make a very explosive impact not just for live music in Toronto, but throughout Canada as well in the months ahead." - The Max Brand Report

We're working on transcripts and getting the video up, but until then, let's just say it rocked! Tara was as cool as she is talented, and she said it herself: "You know what, Basia, I played NXNE for the first time 11 years ago, and I landed myself a record deal, so I wish you the same luck. Rock Chicks unite!"
Basia, Ron and Glenn's ThatRadio interview and performance was also a blast! They performed "Don't Talk" and "Torn" acoustically, and it sounded great. Photos from that and a video will be available soon.

DON'T TALK IS NOW OUT! Listen to it in the MUSIC section or at Basia's MySpace!! Buy it now in our store!
The artwork is complete, CDs have been pressed and now it's time to celebrate! Basia's releasing her new single, Don't Talk, a much-anticipated follow up to her 2007 EP "Writings on the Wall." The song will be unveiled tonight, Thursday, March 20th, at the Annex Wreckroom at 794 Bathurst. The track features an all-star cast of creators: it was co-written with Kyle Riabko, recorded, produced and engineered by Brian Moncarz of Whirlwind Sound Studio and mastered by Joao Carvalho himself.
"We spent a day on vocals, doubling and harmonies, and she maintained the same enthusiasm and professionalism for the tenth take that she did for the first, always performing with incredible tone. It's great when you're having fun recording with someone, doing take after take just to see what you come up with, rather than out of necessity for better quality." - Brian Moncarz
The song is already getting press before ever being released! Deacon Day of Bandwagon Magazine has written a great review (http://www.basialyjak.com/bandwagonmag180308.html), and Chris Clay at Mississauga News has written a piece on the release party (http://www.basialyjak.com/mississauganews180308.html)! Check them out and look out for more coming in the next few weeks!
March 17th, 2008
Happy St. Patty's Day! To celebrate, "Don't Talk" has officially been sent off to print and will be ready in a couple of days. The release party is this Thursday night, March 20th, 2008 at the Annex Wreckroom, and it's a long weekend, so no excuses! =) From Other Planes, Shortwave and Alternate End are also playing, and part of ticket proceeds go towards Sketch.ca, an amazing open arts studio for homeless youth in Toronto. Donations for the Queen St. W fire victims are also being accepted, with $2 knocked off door fees for those who bring something.
We hope to see as many old and new faces out as possible, as this is a really important occasion, and we want to share it wish as many fans and friends as possible!
March 5th, 2008
The response from our site being featured on XOMReviews.com has been amazing! People from all over the world, who we would never have otherwise reached, visited BasiaLyjak.com and heard the tunes, so we're very excited!

Now we're gearing up for the official release of Basia's new single, "Don't Talk," which will be on March 20th at the Annex Wreckroom. We're on board with Paragon in organizing this event, and Shortwave, From Other Planes and Alternate End will be filling out the bill.
We recently learned about Sketch.ca, an arts co-op for youth without access to the studios and materials they need to practice their art, so we've arranged for a percentage of door sales to go towards funding this amazing program. Basia and Ron will be going in to do a Indie Workshop with its facilitator, Amy, in hopes of sharing some of what they've learned over the years about the music industry. A full press release with all the details is posted in the press section, so check that out!
The shoot for the single's artwork is juuuust being completed right now with Stephanie Cloutier, so we're very excited about all the great things happening this month!

From today until March 4, 2008, Basia will be featured on various pages of XOM Reviews.com, a site that averages 100, 000 hits a day! We're excited for the potential of connecting with new fans internationally. We've already had over a hundred hits today, from countries like Bulgaria, Australia, Germany, England, China, Thailand, Austria, Netherlands, Pakistan, Qatar, Guatemala, UAE, UK, France, Turkey Libya, Singapore, Israel, and of course, the US and Canada!

Unfortunately, the map only logs the last 500 visits, so we're missing tons of US, Canada and South America hits, but it's still amazing to see all the visitors we've gotten from new places!
Next, on March 20th, is Basia's CD single release party for the song "Don't Talk," at the Annex Wreckroom with From Other Planes, shortwave and Alternate End! Basia's in the process of shooting photos for the artwork with Stephanie Cloutier, and copies will be available that night. This will be a HUGE night, so if you've been wanting to come out to a show and haven't been able to, this one is not to be missed!
Thanks to everyone who came out to the Revival gig last Friday, to Paragon for organizing the event, and to Wendy Rombough of WLR Photography for taking tons of amazing photos! You can see them on Basia's MySpace and Facebook pages, and we'll get a few up on here soon.
Look out for a new, full-length biography coming soon!

There's been a change to the March 20th single release party. "Don't Talk" will now be released at The Annex Wreckroom instead of the Revival. It'll be Basia's first time back at the venue since NXNE last year, so we're excited to have a gig there again. Shortwave and From Other Planes are set to play as well, with a couple more bands TBA.
Next week, starting February 27th, Basia will be featured on various parts of XOMReviews.com for 4 days, so keep an eye out for that. =)

A big cheers to those who made it out to the ElMo on Friday! The weather was brutal, but we still had a pretty amazing, intimate show.
Luckily, the awesome Bridget from OMNI braved the snow and came out at midnight to film Basia's set. Clips of it will be featured on Na Luzie, a Polish language and culture program, along with an interview by the lovely Anna Piszczkiewicz. Thanks to OMNI, Anna and Bridget for their support! You guys rock!!

Happy New Year!!
The results for the IOMAs are in as of January 1st, 2008! Basia won Best Female Solo Artist and Best Song for "Bye Bye!" Congratulations are also in order to Andrew Lauzon, who produced, engineered and played guitar on "Writings on the Wall," as he won top honours in each of those 3 categories! Thanks to those who nominated and voted; everyone whose contributions to Basia's project were recognized truly deserved it!
Needless to say, these awards were a lovely way to start off the new year, so a big thank you to those who made it happen.
Hope to see everyone out at Lee's Palace on Saturday -- the line up is awesome, with Sin Dealer and Frankie Whyte and the Dead Idols opening the night. If you like one of the bands, you'll definitely like the others, so make sure to stick around for the whole night! It'll be a blast and you'll be supporting some seriously hardworking indie artists.
Cheers!
