TORONTO, ON. - December 23, 2007 - Basia Lyjak has had an extraordinary year, starting off with a new band and the release of her latest EP, "Writings on the Wall." Meeting with songwriters like Glenn Ballard and Mark Hudson at Canadian Music Week inspired her to push harder for her goals, which led to the singer-songwriter being asked to play NXNE 2007, an event she hopes to be part of again this year. With gigs played at some of Toronto's best live music venues -- The ElMo, The Rivoli, The Horseshoe, The Kathedral, and the Phoenix for MQMusic Fest 2007, alongside Edwin, Revolver and the Mudmen -- BasiaÕs carving her niche in Toronto's music scene.
"There are only a few women that have rocked our world throughout the ages: Janis Joplin, Etta James, Heart, and The Pretenders, but guess what? There's a new chick that rocks my socks off. Her name is Basia Lyjak - and she kicked my ass! She will be a force in rock n' roll, and once you hear her, you wont forget her... I haven't!" Ð Mark Hudson (Livin' on the Edge, Aerosmith)
Support has come pouring in from all directions: John Holosko has filmed footage for a full-length video, a merch line with C-Squared Promotions has been created, new songs have been written with Kyle Riabko and recorded with Pilate producer/engineer, Brian Moncarz, and Basia was offered the opening slot for April Wine's show in Peterborough this past November Ð needless to say, 2007 has been busy!
"Basia Lyjak has broken the mold, folks. This incredibly talented female rock practitioner from Toronto has emerged with a laughingly brilliant and innovatively excellent EP that rips at the very foundations of once sleepy North American rock and wakes the whole world up with the kinda force that could repair the melting ice sheets at either ends of the north or south poles!" - Elley Wilson, IOM Magazine
If this is the era of the indie artist, 2008 will prove to be the definitive year of unsigned musicians showing the world what they've got, so join Basia on January 5th, 2008, as she does just that and headlines Lee's Palace alongside Frankie Whyte and Dead Idols and Sin Dealer. The world is listening, and as recent press on Basia proves, they like what they hear - a straight up rock chick with catchy, well crafted tunes and simultaneously powerful, raw and technically skilled vocals that bring you back to a day when singing came from your heart and your gut, rather than a pitch corrector in a studio. With a tight, all-star band behind her, it's impossible to deny that she's the sort of kick in the ass the music industry needs!
Tickets $7. More updates and news available at BasiaLyjak.com!
