TORONTO, ON. - July 9th, 2008 Ñ "Wow! This song makes you get into a '74 Monte Carlo and forces you to drive to Vegas at gun-point. I won't even insult you by comparing lead vocals to anyone else. Lead guitar rocks, but you already knew that. The hook, the hook, the hook! I know I'll be humming the hook later. Mission accomplished!" - Review of "Don't Talk"
After a whirlwind NXNE '08, the Basia Lyjak train is chugging full-speed ahead this summer. A live interview with Tara Slone on Sun TV's Canoe Live! was just the tip of the iceberg for Basia, who was featured in the Toronto SUN as one of NXNE's must-see artists as well as one of the Top 3 artists to see live this year! To boot, Metro News is promoting her summer gigs, and Scene And Heard.ca named her NXNE slot as the "best bet" for the festival. To add to the buzz, TwentySomethingTV.com just interviewed Basia for an episode to air on July 25th, Basia's tour date with Lee Aaron and MyxerTones.com will feature her in their Explore pages from July 17th - 20th, and as their "Pick of the Day" on September 15th.
With the success of, and enthusiastic response to Basia's latest single, "Don't Talk," it's no surprise that people are taking notice. From Germany to L.A. to Brazil, the track, written with Kyle Riabko and produced by Brian Moncarz, is being heard worldwide. Awards and acclaim for the song have been pouring in from GarageBand: Best Female Vocal, Track of the Day, and Best Lyrics, to name a few.
Basia and the guys have been on a recording frenzy at Candy Hammer Studios, writing, jamming and tracking new tunes, but that hasn't stopped them from booking wicked gigs!
Basia opens for Lee Aaron, the Metal Queen herself, on her Toronto "back to rock" tour stop at Rock n' Roll Heaven on July 25th (the only intimate venue this tour!)! It's a huge stepping stone and an honour to perform alongside a pioneering woman in rock. If you want tickets, get them sooner rather than later, because this event will be 100% sold out!
If you're looking for something to do with your family the next day, July 26th, join us for KPYO.net's Youth Day at Nathan Phillips Square, a day of music, art and dance, starting at 12pm. The event benefits the TY card, a points system for underprivileged youth that can be redeemed for popular merchandise, or saved up and used to purchase a FULL post-secondary education! Now no one has to go without an education!
July closes off with a bang in the form of a Rock The Foundation showcase at Tattoo Rock Parlour on July 31st! Tickets are $10 and available through info[at]basialyjak.com or RockTheFoundation.com. Proceeds will benefit the Canadian Breast Cancer Association.
This the year of the indie artist, and every industry seminar, workshop and music festival has been telling us just that. With her growing fan base, Basia's been proving them right all along, one rock n' roll song at a time!
