FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Basia Lyjak Rocks ElMocambo
January 11th, 2008
ElMocambo Tavern
TORONTO, ON. - January 11, 2008 - Rock n' roll singer-songwriter Basia Lyjak has spent the last year breaking down doors to have her music heard, and she's succeeded at each of the legendary venues she's packed, including The Phoenix, Lee's Palace, ElMocambo, The Horseshoe, The Rivoli, The Kathedral, Rock n' Roll Heaven and even The Junction in Peterborough, where she opened the sold out April Wine show!
"Basia Lyjak has arrived at a time when we all thought stage and studio 'magic,' 'presence,' and 'charisma' had long since fallen off the pages! Rewriting the A&R chapters is easy but I really do feel sorry for the label execs that ran out of ink!" - Colin Lynch, Jimmy Stilettos Magazine
Now she's back at the ElMo for the 1-year anniversary of her first headlining spot there! From Other Planes and Drive Channel join Basia in celebrating this special night, which, last year, started off what would be a busy, successful year for the singer: Basia released her EP, "Writings on the Wall," had footage for a full-length video filmed by John Holosko, developed a merch line with C-Squared Promotions, wrote with prodigious musician Kyle Riabko, recorded with Pilate producer Brian Moncarz, played the NXNE and MQMusicFest festivals, launched a new website and met with industry vets like Mark Hudson and Glen Ballard!
"There are only a few women that have rocked our world throughout the ages: Janis Joplin, Etta James, Heart, and The Pretenders, but guess what? There's a new chick that rocks my socks off, and her name is Basia Lyjak - and she kicked my ass! She'll be a force in rock n' roll, and once you hear her, you wont forget her... I haven't!" - Mark Hudson (Livin' on the Edge, Aerosmith)
As always, her all-star band will accompany her, featuring guitarist Ron Bechard of Sin Dealer, formerly of Edwin, bassist Dave Carreiro of Nigel's 11, formerly of Slash Puppet, and drummer Glenn Nash of OzoneBaby and of Q107 house band fame. 2008 greeted Basia with awards for "Best Female Solo Artist" and "Best Song - Bye Bye," from IOM Magazine's 5th annual awards, and the band is inspired to rock hard and work hard to make this the year of the indie artist!
Doors 9pm, cover $7.
