Basia Lyjak
March 2008 Single - "Don't Talk"

Basia is back!

Since her 2007 release "Writings On The Wall," Basia has been busy. The year 2007 saw Basia performing constantly, gaining speed, and headlining her own shows. She has garnered for herself many great reviews and interviews, including TV spots.

So now Basia Lyjak brings us her new single, "Don't Talk." If you had a chance to listen to "Writings On The Wall," you would have noticed that Basia has the musical ability to meld older and loved styles with the new styles of today. A crow's eye view of Basia's work would look like a collage with pieces of music past, glued next to today's clippings. Her execution is amazing, and apparently to her fans, her timing is as well.

"Don't Talk" fits perfectly in with her previous work. It's a great song, right from the beginning to the end. I love the intro. It immediately throws energy at you with heavy guitars and powerful drums in an upbeat tempo. The chorus is definitely catchy, keeping the same enthusiasm as the intro, but not only is the song catchy, it has the qualities that would keep music lovers from a lot of styles happy.

Basia and her band have kept the frame of the song based in poppy rock n' roll riffs, and then injected the other mixture of styles. The overall base has a KISS feel, but in places you get a feeling of something different. Such as in the chorus, when the main guitar riff changes to a '90s style similar to Hole and Bif Naked.

Keeping with her influences, Basia's vocals stand out as large as Pat Benetar. She's created a great set of lyrics that have feeling and angst, and are relatable to the listener. Also, when we look at the solo, you can hear an underlying Stone Temple Pilots riff in the rhythm guitar. The song finishes off with a ripping solo. The guitarist pulls out his wah peddle and flys through some great little licks.

Basia Lyjak has created an amazing song! This is probably my favorite in the Basia canon of music. I'm looking forward to the next single!
