FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
March 20, 2008
Annex Wreckroom
TORONTO, ON. - March 1st, 2008 - Basia Lyjak is a straight up rock chick with catchy, well crafted tunes and simultaneously powerful, raw and technically skilled vocals that bring you back to a day when singing came from your heart and your gut, rather than a pitch corrector in a studio. Backed by an all-star band (guitarist Ron Bechard, (Sin Dealer, Edwin), bassist Dave Carreiro, (Nigel's 11, Slash Puppet) and drummer Glenn Nash (OzoneBaby, Q107 house band)), her stage show combines Janis Joplin's passion and soul with No Doubt's energy and aesthetic and gives the industry just the kick in the ass that it needs!
To kick 2008 off with a bang, Basia and the guys are releasing her new single, "Don't Talk," written with the prodigious Kyle Riabko, and recorded with Brian Moncarz (Pilate) of Whirlwind Sound Studios. With the help of these talented musicians and Can Clone CD Duplication Services, Basia hopes to set an example for artists everywhere - you can create and produce your art independently.
"There are only a few women that have rocked our world throughout the ages: Janis Joplin, Etta James, Heart, and The Pretenders, but guess what? There's a new chick that rocks my socks off, and her name is Basia Lyjak - and she kicked my ass! She'll be a force in rock n' roll, and once you hear her, you wont forget her... I haven't!" - Mark Hudson (Songwriter/Producer, Livin' on the Edge, Aerosmith)
In conjuction with ParagonOnline.ca, the release party - March 20th at Annex Wreckroom - is filled out by 3 other hardworking indie bands: From Other Planes, Shortwave and Alternate End, with comedian Johnny Legend emceeing the intermissions. A percentage of ticket proceeds have been promised to Sketch.ca, an open studio for all mediums, dedicated to getting youth off the streets and into an environment where they can hone their talents and skills. To gear up for the show, Basia and her guitarist, Ron, will help lead an indie music workshop that day with its facilitator, Amy Noseworthy, in hopes of sharing their broad industry experience with kids and musicians who may be looking to branch out as artists.
Basia's 2007 EP, "Writings on the Wall," which won 5 IOM Awards, has helped her break down walls to have her music heard, earning rave reviews from packed crowds and industry alike at venues including The Phoenix, Lee's Palace, The ElMo, The Horseshoe, The Riv, and even The Junction in Peterborough, where she opened the sold out April Wine show! To boot, C-Squared Promotions has produced a wicked line of merch to support the project!
Tickets are $7 at the door, with a discount of $2 for those who bring donations for the Queen St. W Revival! Come on out and support 4 indie artists and 2 worthy charities! And to welcome the Spring, Paragon will be handing out tasty Cadbury eggs to attendees! Help make this the year of the indie artist!
